![]()
Breakfast
with traditional chinese stuff (cooked fish, wan ton, steam-cooked algae,
tee...) Move to a Li Yang harbour. Departure for the 80
km Li River boat trip. Along the river passing the romantic countryside
with hundreds of small hills
and peeks with bamboo wood. Lunch on boat with chinese food and slow movement
down to Yang Shuo. During the trip we met a lovely young chinese couple who
tried to explain us what we were eating by showing us the chinese signs in
our little
travel-dictionary. The trip took 4 hours. A girl waited at the Yang
Shuo harbour for showing us
the Happy
Hotel. Check-in short break in the room and start to a city-discovery
tour. Enjoying
the local Yang
Shuo Park by paying 20? RMB. Climbing the Xilang Hill for
a photo-session and a short, but good movie. Exploration of the tourist-trap-market,
red-light streets and discovery of a little tea-shop for the
local people. Two or more hours of tasting different kinds of teas with the
appropriate ceremony. Finally
sale of tea and tea-cups...and Diego looking for a toilet. Very good fish-dinner
with river-food in a clean restaurant, nevertheless one rat couldn't be hidden.
Night-pictures
of the river and some buildings.
Day 9 - Friday 21/2/2003
To the countryside with bikes and back to the border...
![]()
Slow waking up in the room. The shower in the bathroom was very cold with
not really cold water. After a western oriented breakfast we start for
our organized bike tour with our young and merry guide
from the hotel. We reach popular hills like the Camel
Hill in the surroundings of the village. On the way old Chinese with their
junk-souvenir besieged us. Near the Moon Hill and a moody cave we receive
a "traditional lunch". We turn back to the hotel. After we had
looked around the tourist
places, we took the bus to Guilin and then a
taxi to the airport. Our airplane to Shen Zhen was late
for more then 2 hours. After we had largest problems to explain the taxidriver
the destination to the Shangri
La hotel, we met finally Martin in the fine "house-bar".
We took a rather bad 3-bed-room (in another hotel) and enjoyed after an
Portuguese-asiatic
dinner the foreigner bonus when going out into the "hardcore-discos".
Day 10 - Saturday 22/2/2003
Shopping in Shen Zen and Fondue in Hong Kong...
![]()
Rather later then former we applied to our Shopping route into
the paradise of pirat copies close to the border. Naturally we only look
for Watch
Replicas like this *g*. You can also find DVDs, famous label clothes,
ecc.
With our things we took the train back to Hong Kong in order
to meet in the last evening with several students to the Hot
Pot Fondue -
a tipical local restaurant. The free beer we naturally
impudently used - Chinese
do not consume so much *g*
Day 11 - Sunday 23/2/2003
Last Morning and fly from Asia to Europe...
![]()
After the comfortable city-check-in we use for the second
time the Airport Express and fly back to Europe with another KLM Boeing 747. A small ill-bred
boy in the row before us, held us busy. In Amsterdam we
had to wait for the airplane to Munich.
We was really tired! Our immediate travel home with the car to Bozen was
rather laborious.
but our conclusion: we love China...!!!
